Fleck wins Sligo Rally

British driver Steve Fleck in a Subaru WRC, took a nine second win over Glen Allen (Escort WRC), who led most of the way in the Sligo Rally..

Allen opened up a narrow lead initially but midway through the rally he was pegged back on level

terms by Fleck.

Allen eked out a two second lead at the end of stage six but Fleck was faster by four seconds on the

penultimate stage and seven on the final stage to win by nine seconds.

Steven Hendy brought his Escort Cosworth back to Sligo in third place.

Alan Nesbitt - brother of Irish tarmac champion Andrew - finished fourth, his Toyota Celica over a minute ahead of the Audi of British driver, David Kynaston.

Meanwhile Portadown’s Adam Carroll took third and second respectively in the British Formula 3 double header at Oulton Park. Both races were won by series leader, Alan van der Merwe.

In the British GT Cup championship, Cork’s, Matt Griffin and his British team mate, Patrick Pearse, had a comfortable win in their TECH9 Porsche.

In Dungarvan, Karl Cleary completed a double in the Dunlop Hillclimb Championship, following his win yesterday, he was pushed hard by Michael B. Roche, who was only a fraction of a second behind.
