Irish U18s win knock Spain for six

The Irish U18 boys have beaten Spain 6-1 in the second phase of the European Nations Cup A Division qualifiers in Barcelona.

The result gives the team two wins in as many games.

Irish captain Mark Gleghorne scored a hat-trick while Steven Redpath got a double and Eugene Magee scored one.

Gleghorne has now scored nine goals in the four matches.

Ireland will play the Netherlands tomorrow at 6pm Irish time and a draw will be enough to retain their European title which they won in Rotterdam last year.

Even if they lose, they can still potentially win the tournament on goal difference.

Belgium played the Netherlands in the other pool match at 4pm today.

The U16 boys lost by 2-0 to France and must beat the Czech Republic tomorrow to retain Division A Status for 2004.
