Barrable wins in Monaghan

Michael Barrable and co-driver, Dermot O’Gorman (Subaru WRC) won a keenly contested Monaghan Rally, the second round of the Dunlop National Rally Championship.

Barrable finished the nine stages around Scotstown just nine ahead of the Toyota Celica of Eugene Donnelly/Paddy Toner.

Defending national champions, Niall Maguire Paul McLaughlin (Subaru WRC) were third.

Barrable took control after the demise of Jim Harrison and although Donnelly made a brave bid, Barrable maintained his composure and took his first win of the season.

In terms of the championship, both drivers share the lead on 38 points, Donnelly won the Mayo

Rally (Round 1) where Barrable was second.

Niall Maguire survived turbo problems to take third today with David Armstrong gaining his first finish in three outings in his new Escort WRC.

Brian Steele dominated the second round of the Irish Motocross Championship at Vernon Mount, Cork. The Northern Ireland driver won two of the three races.

David Coates and Alistair McClintock were second and third respectively.
