Carl Lewis arrested for drink driving
Nine-time Olympic gold medalist Carl Lewis has been arrested in California on suspicion of drink driving.
The 41-year-old athlete was not hurt when he crashed on Interstate 110 yesterday in south Los Angeles.
Officers found Lewis alone in a Maserati and noticed that he appeared to be intoxicated, said police spokesman Joseph Pace. Lewis then failed a series of sobriety tests and was arrested, Pace said.
A breath test given later at a police station showed Lewis’ blood alcohol level was .08%, the level at which a driver is considered drunk in California.
Pace said it was possible Lewis struck a wall next to the road because his car was damaged on the right side.
Lewis was released and is due to appear at Los Angeles Superior Court on July 7.
