Sx3 Star's Gareth Maguire and Adrian Fulton, along with Mardyke UCC Demon's Brian Clernon, have been short-listed to receive the Irish Basketball Player of the Year award 2003.

Despite Star's lack of silverware this year, both Maguire and Fulton put in superb performances throughout the season.

Maguire was honoured with the Player of the Year award in 1993 and again in 1998 and is now in line for a third award 10 years on.

Despite struggling throughout the season with a hamstring injury, Brian Clernon was a key player for Demons in the first half of the season and the crucial element of the Cork team's Cup success in February.

In the non-Irish based category, Kenny Gamble, Charron Watson and St Vincent's Mike Chadwick have been short-listed.

Eoghan White and Ian O'Boyle of Notre Dame have been nominated for Junior Player of the year, along with Castlbar's Herman Heyl.

In the women's Superleague, the incredible Michelle Aspell, her University of Limerick teammate Dearbhla Breen and Tolka Rover's Sharyn Kelly have been short-listed for Player of the Year.

Drimnagh's talented Emer Foley, along with St Paul's Diane Griffin and Waterford Wildcats Jenny Kelly have been nominated for the Junior Player of the Year awards.

The Irish Basketball Association's annual awards will take place in the Burlington Hotel on Friday May 2.
