Spain’s Fernando Alonso shattered Michael Schumacher’s perfect pole record in Malaysia as he spearheaded Renault’s unexpected one-two in qualifying in Kuala Lumpur today.

The 21-year-old – in only his 19th grand prix – grabbed the first pole of his career by almost 0.2 seconds from more experienced team-mate Jarno Trulli.
