Motor racing drivers have fitness levels the equal of the world’s elite athletes according to recent research carried out in the CART series in the United States.

The study by researchers at the University of Miami showed that the fittest drivers had the edge when piloting the 1,550 pound machines at speeds of over 200mph and in temperatures that could reach 130 degrees in the cockpit.
