Radcliffe and Wami to clash again
Paula Radcliffe faces an exciting head-to-head with old foe Gete Wami when she lines up against Ethiopia’s Olympic 10,000 metres silver medallist in next month’s Great North Cross Country.
While Radcliffe has been earning all the headlines and awards for her brilliant season, particularly in the marathon, Wami also made her debut over the distance virtually unnoticed.
And although her time of 2hrs 22minutes 19seconds when winning in Amsterdam was just over five minutes outside Radcliffe’s world record, the Briton will be wary of the threat Wami poses in Newcastle’s Exhibition Park on January 4.
Added spice to the encounter is that both Radcliffe and Wami have each won the country’s most prestigious cross-country race on three occasions.
