Burger King take valuable points from Killarney

Burger King Limerick have beaten Killarney in the ESB men's basketball superleague.

Burger King Limerick have beaten Killarney in the ESB men's basketball superleague.

They started the game very strong and had a 16-2 lead after 5 mins with some excellent baskets by Nazareth Henry and Douglas Hines.

Killarney then clawed their way back into the game through John Esteck and Billy Gilligan to trail the Limerick lads 24-19 at the end of the first quarter.

The second quarter was very much basket for basket with Limerick holding a 4 point lead at half time 40-36.

In the third quarter Limerick stepped up the tempo for a while and went 15 points ahead.

Yet again Killarney pulled their way back into the game but had Shane Horgan fouled out in the 27th minute.

Limerick held a 10-point lead going into the final quarter 62-52.

Two minutes into the final quarter Luke O'Hea for Limerick fouled out of the game on 13 points.

Then Killarney's John Esteck received an injury to his face and had to leave the game in the 34th minute on 25 points.

It was at this stage Limerick began to take control of the game with some excellent defence and superb shooting from Douglas Hines.

In the last five minutes of the game Ger Noonan from Killarney had to leave the game after receiveing 2 Technical fouls and shortly after Brian Clarke fouled out of the game also.

Limerick ran their full squad for the last few minutes of the game and ran out comfortable winners 94-76.
