O'Brien edged out of LG Cup
Fergal O’Brien has been edged out of the LG Cup 5-4 by world number 63 Gerard Greene.
Greene has now won more matches in the LG Cup – five – than he managed in the whole of last season.
But Dubliner O’Brien will be kicking himself for not reaching the quarter-finals. He was only one ball from victory in frame seven but he missed an easy red and the match drifted away from him.
Greene has good memories of the Guild Hall. It was in Preston five years ago he defeated Steve Davis 9-2 on the way to the only ranking tournament quarter-final of his career.
“I looked to be out of the game but Fergal missed that red and I started to play well,” said Greene.
“I got myself a new cue in the summer because my old one was bent and I’ve not lost too many matches with it.
“I’ve also got a seven month old baby, Kienan, and I have to win to keep him in food and nappies.”
