O’Sullivan to run in ‘straight’ 5,000m final

Ireland’s Sonia O’Sullivan will run in a "straight final" of the 5,000m event at the European Championships in Munich tonight after organisers decided to scrap the semi-finals.

O’Sullivan will be running alongside her compatriots Una English and Marie McCambridge.

There was speculation that Britain’s Paula Radcliffe would re-enter the event following the decision to scrap the heats, but it has now been confirmed that the 10,000m gold medallist will not compete.
