September return for Pocket rocket McCullough

Ireland's Wayne McCullough will launch his quest towards a world title shot on September 14 at York Hall, Bethnal Green.

Ireland's Wayne McCullough will launch his quest towards a world title shot on September 14 at York Hall, Bethnal Green.

And promoter Frank Warren announced today McCullough will then fight the winner of the October clash between Glasgow’s Scott Harrison and WBO featherweight champion Juan Pablo Chacon.

Former WBC bantamweight champion McCullough controversially received a British Boxing Board of Control licence last month after a two-year battle with the Board, who had prevented him from boxing due to a cyst near his brain.

Warren explained: "Wayne will have a 10-rounder as the main support to Kevin Lear’s first WBU super-featherweight title defence.

"Then I want to set him up with the winner of Harrison and Chacon in December and that will take place in either Glasgow - if Harrison wins - or Ireland.

"I always said that Wayne would get his licence back and now we can put the controversy behind us and focus on his career. He still has the class to be a world champion again and he will get that opportunity with me."
