Fisichella hospitalised after French crash
Italian Formula One driver Giancarlo Fisichella was hospitalised this morning after a 150mph crash during final practice for tomorrow’s French Grand Prix at Magny-Cours.
Fisichella, who drives for Irish team Jordan, smashed into a tyre barrier after the front wing of his Honda came off and lodged under the bottom of the car.
The 29-year-old was powerless to prevent the accident at the Estoril bend, which badly damaged his car.
The driver stepped out of the cockpit, but looked shaken as he was driven to the circuit’s medical facility for a check-up.
He was later flown to hospital in nearby Nevers for routine tests. It is unclear if he will be able to participate in the qualifying session later today.
