Goalkeeper Shay Given was a schoolboy when the Republic took Italia 90 by storm, and was taking his first steps in the game with Celtic Juniors four years later.

This time around, he will be firmly in the firing line, and he admits that he can hardly believe he will be one of the men hoping to grip the imagination of a whole country for those few glorious weeks.
