Keane fiasco is history, says defiant McCarthy

MICK McCARTHY yesterday determinedly deflected all questions relating to Roy Keane when he held his first press conference since he fired Ireland’s team captain from his World Cup squad.

The press corps he faced in Izumo was appreciably larger than the group with which he had daily conferences in Saipan. He maintained a consistent line through three attempts to open up discussion on the issue with the comment that as far as he was concerned it was a closed subject.
