Moran makes WNBA

Susan Moran was last night drafted to the WNBA team, the New York Liberty.

Moran's dream to play in the world's top basketball league finally came true after a superb performance for the New York team on Saturday.

Liberty played the Comets in an exhibition game at the weekend and, in her two minutes court-time, Moran scored an incredible four points.

While many Irish players aspire to be part of the world's greatest basketball league, never before in the history of Irish Basketball has a player achieved what Tullamore girl Susan Moran accomplished when she was drafted to the Liberty late last night.

Moran was drafted to the injured-reserve list which means she cannot play in the first three games. Thereafter she will become part of the Liberty squad.

Susan Moran's draft to the WNBA is another addition to her achievements this year.

She was named the Atlantic 10 Conference Player of the Year, as well as a third team Academic All-American.

In addition, the honourable mention All-American was a finalist for the inaugural Senior National Senior Player of the Year Award.

The all-time leading scorer in SJU basketball history (2,340 points), she is the only player in school history to lead her team in both scoring and rebounding in four straight seasons.

This season she ranked among the national leaders and led both the A-10 and Philadelphia Big Five circuits by averaging 23.3 points per game.

A starter in all 122 games of her career, earlier this season she set an Atlantic 10 record by being named the Conference's player of the week eight times.

She was also named to the A-10 All-Conference first team for the second straight season and the league's all-Academic squad for the third year in a row.

The WNBA season tips off this weekend with Liberty in action against the LA Sparks on Saturday May 25.
