Irish drivers in Pau Grand Prix
Irish drivers, Derek Hayes (LD Motorsport) and Michael Keohane (Carlin Motorsport) finished ninth and 13th respectively in the Grand Prix of Pau that was won by French driver, Renaud Derlot.
Hayes and Keohane, making his street racing debut, picked up a number of places on the first lap with the former in ninth and the latter in 11th.
At the front, Derlot led from another French driver, Bruno Besson and Carlin Motorsport driver, James
Courtney. Lap by lap the order remained static at the head of the pack.
Keohane lost two places when he was forced wide at the hairpin and he eventually came home 13th. Hayes had a trouble-free run to ninth.
At the finish, a delighted Derlot jumped out his car and climbed the spectator fence in a show of emotion to his home fans as he joined the likes of Jim Clark, Jack Brabham, Jacky Stewart, Pedro Lamy and Juan Pablo Montoya as winners of the Pau Grand Prix.
