O'Sullivan comes in 14th in Brussels
Sonia O’Sullivan clocked up a personal best time of 1 hour 10 minutes and four seconds on her way to finishing 14th in the women’s World Half Marathon in Brussels today.
The Cork runner was always in the leading bunch but started to trail back with about 15 kilometres left.
It was one of her first attempts at the half-marathon distance and after the race she confirmed that she was reasonably happy with her performance and that she would definitely be racing over that distance more often.
O’Sullivan blamed the cobblestone surface that formed part of the course for her finish outside the main leaders.
She claimed that she was running on cobblestones when the leaders made the crucial break and she simply could not match their pace over the unfamiliar surface.
The race was won by the world 3,000 metres indoor record holder Berhane Adere of Ethiopia.
