Irish drivers on the podium in Silverstone

Irish drivers, Adam Carroll and Michael Keohane finished on the podium in today’s fifth round of the

Avon Tyres British Formula 3 Championship at Silverstone.

Keohane came from ninth on the grid to finish second Championship Class driver behind race winner, Mark Taylor. Keohane’s Carlin Motorsport team mate, James Courtney pitted after lap one for emergency repairs, a few laps later he rejoined the race, set fastest lap and returned to the pits.

Robbie Kerr took the third step of the podium in the Championship Class, he now leads the series, a point ahead of Courtney and nine ahead of Keohane, who moves into third place overall.

Adam Carroll took yet another win in the Scholarship Class to confirm his tag of favourite to win the

series.

The sixth round takes place later this afternoon. Meanwhile, in the Rally of the Lakes, Derek McGarrity is desperately trying to fend off the challenge of Andrew Nesbitt. Nesbitt has cut an overnight deficit of 77 seconds to just 45 seconds and there are six stages still remaining.

Eamonn Boland is a further eight seconds behind Boland and just five ahead of Liam O’Callaghan. Daniel Doherty rounds off the Subaru top five.

Austin McHale (Toyota Corolla WRC) is sixth - 2 minutes and 55 seconds off the lead.

Trevor Cathers (Mitsubishi) is 16 seconds ahead of the Subaru of Donie O’Sullivan in the Group N category and Denis Cronin (BMW) continues to dominate the national category.
