Hurling: Dunne out of Wexford line-up

Wexford have omitted long serving defender Liam Dunne for their crucial Allianz Division 1B National Hurling League game with Offaly in Birr.

Dunne who figured in the wing-back position in the defeat to Limerick is ousted from the post by Eddie Doyle who came on as a substitute during that game.

This is one of three changes in personnel from the Shannonsiders defeat.

Trevor Kelly comes in to partner Rory Mallon in midfield, with Adrian Fenlon switching to centre-forward in place of Larry Murphy, out with a hamstring, while Rory McCarthy is back in attack to the exclusion of Darren Caulfield.

Meanwhile Wexford’s off-field problems continue with to mount with the shock resignation of under-age County Board Chairman, Michael Stafford.

Stafford, who stepped into the hot seat in 2000, has tendered his resignation to the County Board - yet another hammer blow to the GAA in the county, which has just seen the end of a nine-week referee strike.

Stafford refused to elaborate on his decision to quit.

Wexford SH v Offaly: D Fitzhenry, D O’Connor, D Ryan, M Travers, D Stamp, D Ruth, E Doyle, T Kelly, R Mallon, D O’Brien, A Fenlon, M Jordan, B Lambert, L O’Gorman, R McCarthy.
