Rallying: Makinen out early again
Four-time world champion Tommi Makinen was forced out of the Rally of Catalunya before the start of the second leg through engine failure.
The retirement is the Finn's third in four events this year, and comes before the start of the rally's second stage, a road section from Lloret de Mar on the Costa Brava.
The engine of his Subaru Impreza failed about 35 miles from leg two's service area, thought to be a result of a crash on yesterday's opening leg.
He opened the season with victory in Monte Carlo - a record 24th World Rally win - but has left subsequent events in Sweden and Corsica early.
