Snooker: Doherty reaches China Open quarter-finals
Ireland’s Ken Doherty has secured a place in the quarter-finals of the China Open after beating Joe Perry 5-2 in the second round this morning.
The Dubliner notched up breaks of 43, 53, 56 and 65 as he built up a 4-1 lead and finished with a 57 clearance in the seventh frame to win it on the black.
He now goes on to play either Anthony Hamilton or Quentin Hann.
Meanwhile, little-known British teenager Mark Selby has caused another upset by knocking Stephen Hendry out of the competition.
Selby, who is ranked 95th, beat Hendry 5-1 to set up a quarter-final meeting with either Jimmy White or Ronnie O’Sullivan. The youngster also beat Ireland’s Joe Swail in the previous round.
