Basketball: Demons confident ahead of weekend game

After a brief hiatus, the men's Superleague is back in full swing this weekend with eight games on over the weekend.

Friday night tips off with the big Cork derby game, Demons and Neptune in action in Parochial Hall at 8.30pm. Demons had an easy win over Neptune when they met back in October (88-68) and on the back of three consecutive wins, Demons are confident ahead of the weekend.

Demons Coach, Pat Price knows the danger with the Cork derby games, "Our comfortable win earlier in the season carries little weight and anything could happen this weekend'. Demons are struggling with the same injuries issues they have had all season.

Tim O'Halloran is in doubt ahead of the weekend with a reoccurring ankle injury. Neptune have injury problems of their own. While Emmet Neville is back to full fitness, Marcus Walley and Ger Noonan are in doubt ahead of the weekend.

Waterford Crystal will be looking for a victory to up their confidence, when they travel to Burger King Limerick this weekend. After their devastating, Cup semi-final knockout, Waterford Crystal came out unscathed and will need a full squad this weekend if they are to win this clash. Earlier this

season, Limerick won 73-65, one of only three teams to defeat Waterford all season. Limerick will be weakened with the absence of Robert Lynch while Dave Barry will be out for 2-3 weeks with a shoulder injury picked up early in the week.

Karl Donnelly will be back on the Vincent's squad this weekend, in time for the double header. Vincent's are in action against Big Al's and UCD Marian this weekend. Big Al's have a full squad ahead of the weekend while Marian are hoping to have Trevor Smullen back on court. Smullen went out injured before Christmas and his fitness will be determined later in the week.

In the women's league, Tolka Rovers and University of Limerick are back in action after their Cup tie last weekend. The three-way race for the women's title could be tightened this weekend with a win for Limerick. Both teams will have full squads to prove from.

Bausch & Lomb Wildcats have Chris Kiely back on the bench this week and will have a full squad when they take on Dart Killester. A win for Killester will keep Tolka and University of Limerick in the running for league title.
