Formula One: Webber looking forward to Minardi debut

Mark Webber has expressed his delight at signing to drive for Minardi in the Formula One World Championship this season.

The Australian will make his debut in Melbourne on March 3.

Webber said: "It is phenomenal news for me but it has still not sunk in yet.

"Making my debut in front of my fellow Australians in Melbourne will be incredible.

"There were times when I thought I wouldn't make it into Formula One, but to do so now is just fantastic. Now the hard work really begins."

Team chief Paul Stoddart said: "Mark is a really good driver and he proved that when he tested for us. That really swung my decision.

"Hopefully Mark and Alex (Yoong), our other driver, can help us up the grid now.

"The aim is to get some points and finish in the top 10, and I really think we can do that."
