A decision on the national stadium could be just days away, according to reports this morning.

An Taoiseach Bertie Ahern, an avid supporter of the stadium proposal, and the Tanaiste, Mary Harney, are said to be close to be settling their differences on the contentious issue.

With Ireland and Scotland set to mount a joint bid for the Euro 2008 championships there is growing pressure in the Government to make a final decision on the stadium.

The consultant's report into the project could be on the cabinet table as early as Wednesday morning.

If the proposals are approved it is believed a 65,000 seater stadium with an open roof will be built, with an expected opening date of 2006.
