Motorsport: Lucey is Maxsport Munster Autocross Champion

The Munster Maxsport Autocross Championship was won by 24-year-old Ballyvourney driver, Gerard Lucey, who finished the Cork Autocross in Grancore near Clonakilty in second place.

His championship rival, Richard Percy from Nenagh, was fourth (third in championship terms) on the final event and lost the series by a point to the Ballyvourney driver.

Today’s event was won by Gordon Percy, who was only one of four drivers from the entry of 61 to break the two-minute barrier.

The winner was fastest on both runs his time on the second - one minute 56.50 seconds was the fastest time of the day and only a fraction of a second ahead of the new champion, Gerard Lucey.

Having made his Autocross debut the previous day, Colin Byrne, also in a Special, secured third overall.

In the classes, Joe Shinnors (Junior) has a clear win in Class 1; Liam Brady defeated his brother, Noel, to win Class 2 and in Class 3,Barry Galvin enjoyed a dominant win.

Class 4 honours went to John Hickey, Richard Percy clinched Class 5 and Jimmy Lucey, a former national Autocross champion, and father of Gerard, added further joy to the Lucey household by claiming top spot in Class 6.
