Texaco Sports Stars of the Year announced

The Texaco Sports Stars of the Year were announced at a ceremony in Dublin last night.

Galway's Padraic Joyce was rewarded for his fantastic year with the award in Gaelic footbal.

Tipperary skipper Tommy Dunne won the hurling award while Republic of Ireland and Manchester United captain Roy Keane was the winner in soccer.

Padraig Harrington took the honours in golf, while Aidan O'Brien was awarded in racing.

In other sports, Sam Lynch took the prize in rowing, Dermot Lennon showjumping, and the Texaco award winners in sailing were Peter Bayly and William Atkinson. Sue Ramsbottom claimed the award in ladies football.
