Snooker: Ebdon criticises McKenzie call

Peter Ebdon has criticised the decision to remove Jim McKenzie from his job as chief executive of the World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association.

Ebdon described the move as: ‘‘A very grave and serious error of judgement.’’

McKenzie was dismissed from his job last Wednesday and at the time the Wirral-based businessman claimed no reasons had been given for his second departure from the company in four years.

It had been expected some of the mystery would have been revealed at yesterday’s WPBSA Annual General Meeting in Bromsgrove, Worcestershire.

However, no disclosures were made at the meeting where world number seven Ebdon was the only member of the game’s top 16 to attend.

‘‘The players should know why,’’ said Ebdon of McKenzie’s sudden removal from office.

‘‘I would like to say he was very up front and honest with the members and strove to make the game better.

‘‘Since Jim has been in office the game has gone forward. Why were the players not consulted?’’
