F1: Moscow race track plans are on target

A new race track in Moscow, capable of hosting a Formula One Grand Prix event, should be completed by the first half of 2003.

Grigory Antyufeyev, chairman of the Moscow Committee for Tourism, said plans for the 2.23 mile track, on the eastern outskirts of the city, are on target.

Antyufeyev said that the $100m project was expected to draw an additional 100,000 tourists to the Moscow region and attract $1bn in investment.

Formula One chief Bernie Ecclestone, who visited the site in May, has said that when the new track is completed, it is highly possible that a Grand Prix event could be held there.
