Star ended the last chance of any Dublin team making the 2002 Cup finals when they defeated Tolka Rovers in the University of Ulster.

Despite a poor opening quarter from Star they went on to take the last semi-final spot.

Tolka stormed into the opening quarter taking an early 27-16 lead at the end of the first quarter.

Star fought back hard in the second quarter to make it a one-point game at half-time.

The opening minutes of the third quarter could have marked the end of it for Star when Deric McGhee slipped and sat out the rest of the quarter with a groin strain.

However, the Northern men were unstoppable and turned the game around.

Star sought control midway through the third period and Tolka Rovers no longer had a look in.

Star hustled well and put on a full court press to take an eight-point lead going into the final quarter 66-58.

Paddy Boylan fouled out in the final quarter, but it was already too late for Tolka Rovers and they return to Dublin to wait yet another year to make the Cup title a reality. Star ran out winners 86-73.
