Continuing their excellent run, Niall McShea/Michael Orr finished the highest placed of the Irish crews involved in the Network Q Rally. They were 17th overall and second in the Super 1600 category.

This morning, Italian driver, Andrea Dallavilla (Fiat Punto) moved ahead of McShea to claim second behind Sebastian Loeb, however, McShea stayed in touch and when Dallavilla hit trouble towards the end of the 17th stage rally, McShea was well placed to retake second spot. The result also secures third overall for McShea in the Super 1600 series.

The other Irish finishers were Eamonn Boland and Anthony Nestor, untroubled throughout the rally, they finished 20th overall.

Eamonn Byrne (Mini Special) scored his fourth win of the Hewison Autotest Championship. In round eight, at the Sandyford Industrial Estate, Dublin, Byrne was just 1.1 seconds ahead of JJ Farrell, who has also four wins to his credit and leads the series by two points.

In Mondello Park, Lawrence Gibson dominated the Carlow CC Rallycross but second place for Michael Coyne (Fiesta) gave him the championship laurels.

In Ballybay, Co Cavan, Ronnie Coulter (Astra) was the top performer and his aggregate score from two of the three rounds saw him take a narrow win over Thomas McGovern. Robert Moffett, in a Metro engined Escort, was third.
