Motorsport: Burns on track to claim C'ship

Subaru’s Richard Burns is on track to claim victory in this year’s World Rally Championship after finishing the first day of the British Rally in second place today.

Burns needs to finish in fourth place or better to win the championship after Ford’s Colin McRae crashed out earlier today.

All Burns has to do is safely negotiate the next two days of driving in the Welsh forests.

He is currently 36.6 seconds behind Peugeot’s Marcus Gronholm, who is not in the running for the title.
