Racing: Tiznow is retired

Tiznow, the dual winner of the Breeders’ Cup Classic, has run his last race and is to embark on a new career as a stallion.

Part owner Michael Cooper reports that plans are afoot to stand Tiznow in Kentucky but he was unable to elaborate pending the outcome of discussions.

He said: ‘‘It was a hard decision to make, but when it came down to it he (Tiznow) has an opportunity now to go out in an incredible way.’’

Tiznow, the first horse to win successive runnings of the Classic, got the upper hand in last year’s race following an epic duel with Giant’s Causeway.

The four-year-old’s campaign was less smooth following his well publicised physical problems, but he returned to his best to deny Godolphin’s Sakhee at Belmont.

Trained by Jay Robbins, Tiznow won eight of his 15 career starts for a bankroll in excess of 6.4 million dollars.
