Motorsport: Hurson wins in Wexford

Peadar Hurson and co-driver, Ian Porter (Toyota Celica ST185), scored their second win in recent weeks when they won the Cedars Hotel Wexford Rally.

They won the Jim Clark Rally a few weeks ago.

Hurson set a blistering pace on the first run as the conditions proved to be very slippery.

The former national champion consolidated his position on the second run and then did enough on the third and final run to record a well merited win.

Their winning margin was 32 seconds with the Subaru Impreza of Tim McNulty/Julian Nangle taking the runner-up spot.

Some changes to the suspension setting contributed to a fine third run, but realistically, they had no hope of reeling in the winners.

Maurice Gass/Geoffrey Orr (Subaru WRC) completed an unchanged top three.

David James was the highest placed local driver and also a winner of the very competitive Class 13.

Sean McArdle (Toyota Celica) made a late dash to secure fifth place with the Escort Cosworth of William Carroll filling the top six.

The Escorts of John Nolan and Jimmy Lambert along with the Toyota Celica of Tom Holton completed the top 10.

The Group N showroom class was won by Clonmel's Kieran Molloy (Mitsubishi Evo 6).

John Carroll won the Ford Ka category.
