Motorsport: Crash makes Davidson a doubt

Bar Honda test driver Anthony Davidson is doubtful for tomorrow’s Macau Grand Prix Formula Three race after a qualifying crash which saw his car collide with the barriers and then hit by a following driver in a low-speed shunt.

Davidson climbed out of his car but suffered a sore neck in the crash, which could keep him out of the end-of-season race on the former Portuguese island colony off the coast of China.

Italian Paolo Montin topped the qualifying session ahead of Japan’s pre-race favourite Takuma Sato.

The Macau event also features motorcycle racing and will see an airing of the bikes that should have been raced at the Isle of Man TT which was cancelled in June because of foot-and-mouth restrictions.

Honda UK’s John McGuinness and the V&M Yamaha R1 of David Jefferies head the entry list, with McGuinness setting the quickest time in practice ahead of Jefferies.
