The seventh round of the Hewison Autotest Championship at Graiguecullen, Co Carlow resulted in a narrow win for Eamonn Byrne.
Championship leader and winner of the previous round in Mondello, JJ Farrell was second, thus leaving the situation at the top of the championship almost unchanged. The remaining places in the top six were filled by Eddie Peterson, Dermot Carnegie and Glen Irwin.
Fastest time on his second run. Gordon Percy, in a Chevrolet Special emerged victorious in the Birr Loose Surface Autocross. From a capacity entry, former national champion, Jimmy Lucey (Peugeot Special) was runner-up - some four seconds behind.
In the first Navigation Trial for some time. Andy Mackarel/Liam Higgins were worthy winners of the Monaghan event. They traversed the 80-mile route through Rockcurry, Ballybay and Smithborough without incurring any penalty.
Hot on their heels, with just two penalties were David Dixon/Paul Hughes and Arthur Kearns/Ashley McAdoo. They were the respective winners of the Expert and Semi-Expert classes. The Novice Class was won by Liam Deehan/Erskine Deery.
Another difficult day for the Irish at the Formula Renault Winter series at the Rockingham Speedway where Michael Devaney finished down in 19th place and John O'Hara's race ended after just two laps.
