The Imokilly Single Stage Rally looks like being the only tarmac special stage event to be run in Co Cork this year.
The foot-and-mouth scare caused the loss of the county¹s premier events, the West Cork Rally, the Cork 20 International and the Fastnet Rally earlier in the year.
The Cork Motor Club organised event will take place on Sunday, December 2
and will feature three runs over a 10 mile tarmac special stage in East Cork.
Based at the Midleton Park Hotel in Midleton, Co. Cork, the event will cater for 131 rally crews who will have had little opportunity for tarmac stage rallying in Ireland so far this year.
"Rallying has taken quite a pounding this year due to the F&M difficulties in Ireland," a club spokesperson said.
"Having lost our annual West Cork Rally back in March, we are delighted to
have the opportunity to organise this event in December and give rally
competitors a chance at some competition".
"We are doing our best to keep costs down for competitors on the rally and
have been able to offer an entry fee of £160 which will include personal accident insurance plus standard rate IRDS insurance."
The event will cater for all rally classes with Group A and N, including4WD, and modified cars being catered for.
Regs will be posted out to all who have applied for them on next Friday, November 9, and entries will open on Tuesday, November 13
Regulations and entry forms for the rally can be obtained by sending a stamped, self addressed envelope to Brian O'Connell, 1 Cranford Pines, Ballincollig, Co. Cork.
