Motorsport: Elliott wins in Mondello
The curtain fell on the Irish motor racing season at Mondello Park where Ken Elliott was awarded race victory in the Formula Vee category.
Brendan Donegan won the RT2000 dominated Formula Libre race.
Elliott got the best start but came under pressure almost immediately from Declan Quigley.
His persistence paid off as he went past Elliott, however, the positions reversed after a few laps until the penultimate lap.
There, Quigley, entering Dunlop corner, outbraked his rival and exited the corner in the lead.
Although he took the chequered flag, he was penalised for overtaking under yellow flags.
Elliott was awarded the race win from Quigley.
Liam Kavanagh controlled proceedings in the Fiat Uno race and Joe Freeburn had a 2.3 second wining margin in the Fiat Punto's.
Eugene Heavey held off a determined Alan Byrne to take the chequered flag in the Stryker race and Lloyd Hutchinson was a clear winner of the historic race.
Brendan Donegan won an exciting race in the closed Formula Libre class.
Comprised mostly of RT2000 cars, pole-sitter Donegan was never headed with Ron Cummings coming through from fourth on the grid to claim second ahead of Pat Donegan and David Copeland.
The Ladies race was won by Sinead Byrnes from Lisanne Mongan and Siobhan Woods.
