Motorsport: Byrne is best in the west
Reigning champion, Eamonn Byrne took a solid win in the fifth round of the Hewison Autotest Championship at Tubbercurry, Co Sligo today.
J.J. Farell and Dermot Carnegie were second and third respectively.
Byrne shared the opening test with Conor McCormack and set the foundation for victory by winning tests two, three, four, five and six.
Farrell won the seventh test as Byrne bounced back to claim the next two.
Farrell had his second test win of the day on Test 10 as Byrne rounded off a fine victory by posting equal fastest on the penultimate test and fastest on the twelfth and final test.
Sam Johnston and Eddie Peterson were fourth and fifth respectively.
