Motorsport: Jennings wins Super 106 Cup round in Kent

Garry Jennings, co-driven by James O'Brien, took fine win on the Ashford Rally in Kent, the penultimate round of the Peugeot Super 106 Cup.

The Fermanagh man finished the 14-stage event some 12 seconds ahead of Ryan Champion.

It was a disappointing day for Rory Galligan, who went out on the opening stage and the Meath driver is now 21 points behind Jennings with one round remaining.

However, he can capture the championship crown if he wins that rally.

Dubliner, Max McKillen was a late retirement in the Formula Rally category of the Rally of Kent. He was holding a top six place until he was forced out with engine problems.

That event was won by Francois Duval (Ford) who edged out early leader Justin Dale (Peugeot) by a few seconds.

In single seater racing, Ireland's, Derek Higgins and Damien Faulkner finished sixth and seventh respectively in the second qualifier for tomorrow's eleventh round of the Indy Lights series at the Laguna Seca Raceway, Monterey, California.

Faulkner shares second place in the championship with Daniel Weldon, who qualified fifth.

Series leader, Townsend Bell, is the man to beat and he is expected to wrap up the title in front of his home fans.

He was fastest in the final qualifier.

A number of titles could well be decided at the penultimate round of the Irish Karting Championships at Kartworld, Watergrasshill later this afternoon.
