Dermot Carnegie is the 2001 BRDA Rallycross Champion after a dominant win at Mondello Park. Pat Doran (Ford Escort RS200), the pre-event championship leader, retired on the first lap with clutch maladies. Carnegie led all through and finished over three seconds ahead of the Metro 6R4 of Lawrence Gibson.

Dermot Carnegie is the 2001 BRDA Rallycross Champion after a dominant win at Mondello Park. Pat Doran (Ford Escort RS200), the pre-event championship leader, retired on the first lap with clutch maladies. Carnegie led all through and finished over three seconds ahead of the Metro 6R4 of Lawrence Gibson.

The race had to be re-started after John McCluskey (Peugeot) jumped the lights. Starting his race from the back of the grid, he made up several places before finishing third ahead of the Ford Focus of Steven Mundy and the Ford Escorts of Michael Coyne and Andy Grant.

Having qualified off pole for the final race of the 2001 British Formula Renault Championship at Brands Hatch, Matt Griffin's hopes of a podium finish disappeared at the very start of the race. The 20-year old Cork racer stalled his car at the start and lost several places before it fired back into action.

The race was red flagged after just eleven of the 30 laps due to the extremely wet conditions. Victory went to Griffin's Manor Motorsport team mate, Richard Antinucci. Griffin eventually finished 14th, one place behind fellow Irish driver, Keith Dempsey.

In the Irish Karting Championships at Tynagh, County Galway, there were wins for Ricky Gordon (Cadets); Ciaran Daly (125 Nationals), Mark Smith (Formula A), Joe Daly (Super Pro-Karts), Gary Wheeler (Pro-karts), Peter Deery (250cc), Emmett Queenan (junior Jica), David Hilliard (Rotax Max). The results of the Junior Restricted race are the subject of an appeal, Jonny McGee is the provisional winner.

Fermanagh's, Niall McShea/Michael Orr (Citroen Saxo) were fourth in the Super 1600 category of the Sanremo Rally. They were 20th. overall. The rally was won by Gilles Panizzi (Peugeot 206).
