Keohane wins in Silverstone

Michael Keohane gained his fifth British Formula 3 Scholarship win of the season in convincing fashion at Silverstone this afternoon.

On a damp track, Keohane darted from the start and as he exited Copse Corner, he had overtaken Ernani Judice, Robert Doornbos and Matthew Gilmore.

He opened up a decisive lead over the early laps of the 18-lap race as Kerr moved into second and Gilmore was a further two places behind.

Gilmore moved into third but there was high drama for the championship duo when they collided near Priory and both retired instantly.

Keohane’s advantage almost doubled as Robert Doornbos led the chase to the Clonakilty driver.

The safety car emerged for a number of laps and when racing resumed, Keohane went on to take the flag and notch up his fifth win of the season.

The Clonakilty ace, driving his Weathermaster/irishmobiles.com/Clonakilty Black Pudding car also set fastest lap to take the maximum 21 points on offer.

Justin Sherwood and Kazuki Hoshino were second and third respectively.

For the final race, Gilmore has pole in the Scholarship Class from Keohane and Kerr.

The race, double the usual distance, is scheduled to start at 5.00 p.m.

Meanwhile, in the Championship Class, Andy Priaulx finished in top spot ahead of Anthony Davidson.

Takuma Sato controlled the raced and had a substantial lead when the safety car emerged for a number of laps.

When racing was set to resume, Sato spun his Mugen Honda and dropped to the back of the pack.

He eventually finished 18th. Earlier in the race, he set fastest lap. Northern Ireland’s, Derek Hayes retired on the first lap.
