F1: US Grand Prix 'will go ahead'

United States Grand Prix boss Tony George insisted tonight the race will go ahead on Sunday week with full security measures in place.

The organisers have vowed to review the security arrangements at Indianapolis in the wake of the terrorist atrocities in North America which led many in the sport to call for the race to be called off.

‘‘While we are very saddened by recent events, we continue to plan and work for what we expect will be a successful and exciting event,’’ said George, president of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Several drivers - including Britain’s David Coulthard and Jenson Button along with Ralf Schumacher - have all raised question marks about safety for next week’s race.

Ferrari’s world champion Michael Schumacher had been given the option of pulling out but confirmed he would make the trip.
