Motorsport: Gilmore and Keohane - first and second in Brands HATCH

Mathew Gilmore and Michael Keohane finished first and second in today’s final race of the British Formula 3 Scholarship Class at Brands Hatch.

Gilmore took a start to finish win while Keohane came through from fourth on the grid to take a fine second.

Robert Doornbos was third from Ernani Judice and championship leader, Robbie Kerr.

Kerr’s lead over Gilmore has been cut to eleven points, Keohane has secured third in the series. The final round is in Silverstone in a fortnight’s time.

Derek Hayes was fifth in the Championship Class race that was won by newly crowned champion, Takuma Sato.

The Ford of Ireland Ford Zetec Championship has been won by Portadown’s George McAlpin.

At Mondello Park, he completed the final round by taking the chequered flag ahead of Corkonian, Alan Dwyer and Ray Moore.

The Leinster Trophy was won by John O’Hara.

In the Dunlop RT2000’s, Derek Cunneely took victory from yesterday’s winner, Jonathan Fildes. Brendan Donegan was third.

The Scottish Rally was won by Dave Weston in a Group N Subaru Impreza. Brian Bell, in a Ford Escort WRC, was second.

Two Irish crews finished inside the top six. Wexford’s, Eamonn Boland/Anthony Nestor, in their NVD liveried Subaru Impreza were fifth and Billy Coleman Award winner, Rory Galligan and his co-driver, Paul Nagle were sixth. Galligan also won the Peugeot Super 106 Cup section finishing ahead of Ryan Champion.

Current leader, Gary Jennings from Fermanagh, who was fifth in the category, retains the series lead.
