Juan Pablo Montoya has won the Italian Grand Prix to claim his first ever win in his first season in Formula 1 for the Williams team.

The Columbian finished five seconds ahead of Rubens Barrichello in a Ferrari with Ralf Schumacher in third in the second Williams.

Michael Schumacher was in fourth place with Pedro de la Rossa in fifth and Jacques Villeneuve in sixth.

It was another bad day for the Jordan Grand Prix team with Jarno Trulli retiring on the first lap after Jenson Button crashed into his on the first bend.

Jean Alesi managed to come from 16th on the grid to seventh at the finish line but he still finished outside the points and with Villeneuve picking up a valuable point, Jordan have slipped further down the constructors championship table.

Eddie Irvine was forced to retire after his Jaguar suffered technical problems.
