Formula One: Montoya on pole position

Columbia’s Juan Pablo Montoya has claimed yet another pole position for tomorrow’s Italian Grand Prix at Monza.

The Williams driver fought off the challenge from the Ferrari team to take the first place on the grid ahead of Rubens Barrichello and Michael Schumacher.

Barrichello was hugely impressive in this afternoons qualifying session as he out qualified his teammate, only to lose out to Montoya.

Ralf Schumacher in the second Williams was in fourth spot on the grid just ahead of Jarno Trulli in the first of the Jordans.

It was a poor session for the McLaren team with David Coulthard finishing in sixth spot, just ahead of Mika Hakkinen, who suffered a high-speed crash towards the end of the session.

Eddie Irvine finished in 13th place on the grid, while the second Jordan of Jean Alesi was in 16th.
