Motorsport: Gilmore tops the sheets in qualifying

At Brands Hatch, venue for the penultimate double header in the British Formula 3 Championship, Northern Ireland’s, Matthew Gilmore (Performance Racing) topped the sheets in qualifying for tomorrow’s first of two races in the Scholarship Class.

Championship leader, Robbie Kerr (Fred Goddard Racing) is off pole with Clonakilty driver, Michael Keohane (Meritus Racing) on the second row – just 0.082 of a second behind pole sitter, Gilmore.

In the Championship Class, Northern Ireland’s, Derek Hayes (Manor Motorsport) will start tomorrow’s first race in the Championship class on the second row of

the grid. Carlin Motorsport team mates, Anthony Davidson and Takuma Sato are on the front row. Sato clinched the championship on the last round in

Thruxton.

Meanwhile, in the provisional qualifying for the Slick 50 Formula Ford series, Adam Carroll is best of the Irish, he qualified third in Group B, Gary Turkington

was fifth, Tony Rogers 12th. and James Murphy 16th - all in the same group.

Other qualifying session at Brands Hatch include Ford Fiestas and of course the second of the stand alone British F3 qualifiers.

In the Scottish Rally, Justin Dale (Peugeot) is the early leader from Mats Anderson (Satria), Irish crew, Robert Woodside/Dean Beckett lost time when they had to stop and change a punctured wheel, they are ninth.

In the national event, Mark Higgins (Subaru Impreza) is the early leader. Rory Galligan (Peugeot) is eighth and fellow Irish driver, Eamonn Boland (Subaru)

is eleventh. Other Irish drivers include Gary Jennings (Peugeot) in 20th place; Shaun Gallagher (Peugeot) is 26th and Kris Meeke (Peugeot) is 34th.
