Motorsport: Boland into second in Belgium

All three Irish crews competing in the Tour of Flanders Rally in Belgium hold places within the top ten.

Eamonn Boland, co-driven by Limerick's, Anthony Nestor, in their NVD liveried Subaru Impreza WRC, have moved into second place - just six seconds ahead of the similar Subaru WRC of local driver, Joost Boxoen. Boland lost some ten seconds with puncture.

Meanwhile, Tipperary's, Roy White and his Northern Ireland co-driver, Michael Paterson continues to make progress.

Driving their FESP Mitsubishi Evo 6, they are now seventh overall and more importantly, second in the Group N showroom category.

White's principal championship rival, David Sterckx (Mitsubishi Evo 6) went off the road at the end of one of the stages earlier today.

White is now ideally placed to close the pre-event eight-point championship deficit.

Another Mitsubishi Evo 6, that of Donegal's, Brendan Kelly/Rory Kennedy are tenth in general classification.

The event, one of the most popular rallies in Belgium is currently being led by the Toyota Corolla WRC of Pieter Tsjoen.

He is almost two and a half minutes ahead of Eamonn Boland.

The cars are now on the final loop of stages before the overnight halt.
