Formula 1: Burti conscious - race will restart

The Belgian Grand Prix was stopped after a huge accident between Eddie Irvine and Luciano Burti.

Irvine's Jaguar and Burti's prost connected on lap 5 when exiting the 190mph Blanchimont corner and Burti ploughed straight into the tyre barrier.

The accident, reminiscent of the one which left Michael Schumacher with a broken leg in the 1999 British Grand Prix, looked to have left Burti unconscious as medical experts struggled to remove him from the car.

However, Irvine and Niki Lauda have confirmed that the Brazilian is conscious.

The race will restart at 2.45pm local time (1.45pm Irish time).
