Ford supremo Niki Lauda is to launch an investigation into the remarkable suggestion that Jaguar offered Eddie Irvine to Jordan in the wake of Heinz-Harald Frentzen's sacking.

Frentzen was axed by Jordan almost four weeks ago on the eve of the German's home grand prix at Hockenheim, leading to widespread speculation as to his replacement.
